Marvel saved the best for last at New York Comic Con. To close out its Marvel Television and Animation panel, the VisionQuest team surprised the crowd with a screening of the series’ very first episode, just days before it arrives on Disney+ on October 14.
The Cast Takes the Stage
Fans were treated to appearances from Paul Bettany (Vision), James Spader (Ultron), Ruaridh Mollica (Thomas Shepard) and Emily Hampshire (EDITH), along with showrunner Terry Matalas.
Bettany shared how the show came together, explaining that he and Matalas had been developing a superhero story about fathers and sons, with a robot father and a human son.
“Terry suggested we get the band back together and call Spader up, and that’s when I knew we had a show,” Bettany said.
Bettany also confirmed that VisionQuest will conclude the story that began with WandaVision and continued in Agatha All Along.
Matalas praised the team behind the series. “It’s made with love, and I think you can see that on screen,” he said.
What Is VisionQuest About?
Vision has been living in hiding, searching for meaning by consulting the AI personalities in his own programming, including EDITH and Ultron. But his quiet life ends when a bounty is placed on his head, sending him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious young man who may be his reincarnated son.
If you’ve seen the latest VisionQuest trailer, you know the father and son story is at the heart of the series.
The First Reactions Are In
Fans who saw the premiere at NYCC were quick to share their thoughts online, and the reactions are glowing. Many are calling it a fitting finale to the WandaVision trilogy, and James Spader’s Ultron is already being singled out as a highlight.

Keep in mind that these reactions are based only on the first episode, so we’ll have to wait for the full season to see how the story wraps up.
