“Family is forever.” That line sets the tone for the brand new trailer for Marvel Television’s VisionQuest, and it hints at an emotional final chapter for one of the MCU’s most beloved characters.
The new look reunites Paul Bettany’s Vision with James Spader’s Ultron, the villain who first brought the synthezoid to life in Avengers: Age of Ultron. This time, the two are not exactly enemies. They may need each other.
Who Is Thomas Shepherd?
At the center of the trailer is a mysterious boy named Thomas Shepherd, played by Ruaridh Mollica. According to Marvel, Vision must work with Ultron to unravel the enigma surrounding the boy, who may be his reincarnated son.
Longtime MCU fans will remember Tommy as one of the twin boys Wanda and Vision raised in the reality of Westview during WandaVision. In Marvel Comics, Thomas Shepherd goes on to become the speedster known as Speed, and Marvel has officially listed Mollica’s role as Thomas Shepherd/Speed. That alone should have fans buzzing about where this story could lead.
A Vision Without His Virtue
VisionQuest picks up with a very different version of the hero. Vision has been rebuilt and rebooted with all of his former memories, but none of his virtue. Now he is searching for meaning, and the arrival of a boy who might be his son could be the key to finding it.
Seeing Vision team up with Ultron, the very being whose programming he once rejected, is one of the most intriguing setups Marvel has offered in some time.
The Final Chapter of the WandaVision Trilogy
Marvel confirms that VisionQuest marks the final chapter in the trilogy that began with WandaVision, the series in which Wanda Maximoff created Vision within an artificial world. After years of waiting, fans will finally see how this story comes to a close.
