Let’s get dangerous — because Darkwing Duck is officially coming back!
Disney has greenlit an all-new animated “Darkwing Duck” series for Disney+, and the details are SO good. This is not a reboot. This is a full continuation of the beloved franchise, picking up with Drake Mallard back in action as the one and only Darkwing Duck. And the voice cast they have assembled? Absolutely incredible.
The Story
For the last 35 years, Darkwing Duck has been stuck in his worst nightmare: an alternate world that has never heard of his superhero exploits. When a rebellious teen named Duckie shows up knowing everything about his heroic past, she pulls this ego fueled vigilante back into the fight. Together, this unlikely duo will get dangerous, taking on old enemies like Negaduck and Megavolt while reuniting with fan favorites Launchpad, Gosalyn, and Morgana to save the entire universe.
Yes, you read that right. The entire universe. Darkwing Duck is going big.
A Dream Voice Cast
The casting here is genuinely exciting for fans of the original series and pop culture lovers alike. Mark Hamill, the legendary voice of the Joker in “Batman: The Animated Series” and one of the most iconic voice actors in the business, steps in as Drake Mallard aka Darkwing Duck. That alone is enough to make your jaw drop.

The Creative Team
The series comes from executive producers Sean Tretta (“Star Trek: Picard”) and Borja Peña Gorostegui (“Lost & Crowned”). Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee, and Gabby Grantham are producing for Point Grey Pictures. And perhaps most importantly, Tad Stones, the creator of the original “Darkwing Duck” series, consulted on the development of these new adventures.
Stones shared his excitement about the project: “Like every other fan of the original show, I’m excited to see Darkwing getting dangerous again in a whole new series. The new creative team has certainly amped up the action and comedy without forgetting the Disney heart. This series places DW in the literary tradition of Robin Hood, Zorro, and Sherlock Holmes, heroes whose lore has been reinterpreted by multiple creators in multiple mediums.”
Point Grey had their own thoughts on the project: “Disney said ‘Let’s get dangerous’ and we said ‘hell yeah.'”
A Rich Legacy
For those who need a quick refresher, the Emmy nominated original “Darkwing Duck” series ran for 91 episodes, originally premiering on Disney Channel before moving to ABC and syndication starting in 1991. The show left a massive cultural footprint, spawning video games for the Nintendo NES and Game Boy, comic book appearances, and eventually a beloved cameo in the modern “DuckTales” series. The original show is streaming right now on Disney+, so you have no excuse not to revisit it before the new series drops.
