Looking for a family movie this weekend? The Cat in the Hat opens in theaters today, Friday, November 6, 2026, and it’s the very first animated feature film based on Dr. Seuss’ classic 1957 book. That’s nearly 70 years in the making!
What The Cat in the Hat Is About
This version expands on the story everyone knows. The Cat in the Hat works for a wacky, otherworldly agency alongside other Seuss style characters like Pig in a Wig and Giraffe with a Carafe, and his job is bringing fun to kids who need it. His latest assignment is a mopey tween named Gabby and her younger brother Sebastian, stuck inside on a rainy day. Of course, a little mischief turns into a whole lot of mayhem, along with some heart and a few life lessons along the way.
Who’s in the Voice Cast
- Bill Hader as the Cat in the Hat (Hader is also an executive producer)
- Xochitl Gomez as Gabby
- Tiago Martinez as Sebastian
- Matt Berry as Waffles the Fish
- America Ferrera as Gabby and Sebastian’s mom
- Quinta Brunson, Bowen Yang, Paula Pell, Tituss Burgess and Giancarlo Esposito in supporting roles
The movie is written and directed by Erica Rivinoja and Alessandro Carloni, with music by Lorne Balfe. It’s the first feature from the newly relaunched Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, and its look blends 2D and 3D animation to capture Dr. Seuss’ classic art style.
