The King of the Monsters is back! Godzilla Minus Zero, the follow up to the Oscar winning Godzilla Minus One, opens in theaters across North America this Friday, November 6, 2026, including IMAX.

What Godzilla Minus Zero Is About

The story picks up in 1949, two years after the events of Godzilla Minus One, and continues the story of Koichi Shikishima and his family as they face an all new disaster. Koichi, a former kamikaze pilot still carrying the guilt of surviving the war, is now married to Noriko and raising young Akiko, but Godzilla isn’t finished with them yet, and this time a deadly new threat joins the chaos.

The First Japanese Film Shot for IMAX

Takashi Yamazaki returns as writer, director and visual effects lead. His work on Godzilla Minus One earned the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, making him the first director since Stanley Kubrick to win in that category. Godzilla Minus Zero goes even bigger: it’s the first Japanese production ever filmed for IMAX, so if you’ve been waiting for a reason to see a movie on the biggest screen possible, this is it.

The Genie Transportation Services

The movie premiered at the New York Film Festival in September to strong reviews and opened in Japan on November 3. GKIDS is releasing it across North America, with a runtime of about two hours and 15 minutes.

Who’s in the Cast

Many familiar faces return from Godzilla Minus One, including Ryunosuke Kamiki as Koichi Shikishima, Minami Hamabe as Noriko, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Yuki Yamada, Min Tanaka, Kuranosuke Sasaki and Sakura Ando. Sae Nagatani is also back as Akiko.

How to See It

Tickets are on sale now, with IMAX showings at select theaters. You can find showtimes and more on the official Godzilla Minus Zero page. Haven’t seen Godzilla Minus One yet? It’s worth watching first, since Minus Zero is a direct continuation of the story.
