Walt Disney Imagineering has dropped a brand new episode of their popular “Pardon Our Pixie Dust” video series, and this one is packed with behind-the-scenes construction progress on some of the most anticipated projects currently in development across Disney Experiences. From a new resort to a long-awaited attraction to a cleverly designed new walkway, there is a lot to get excited about here.
First up is Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge, where fans got a closer look at the giant otter sculptures being built for the resort’s splash pad area, called “Otter Springs.” The two otters are named Addie and Bonnie and are themed after Pocahontas. Currently Addie is the one under construction, and the craftsmanship on display is impressive. The figures are made from Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Panels but are textured in-house to realistically resemble natural wood, which is a great example of how Disney makes their theming feel authentic and immersive.
Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Imagineering gave fans an early peek inside the atrium courtyard of the upcoming Magic of Disney Animation attraction, ahead of its scheduled opening next month. The entrance draws inspiration from Disney’s beloved “Once Upon a Studio” short film and already looks like it will be a standout photo opportunity, complete with benches and classic and contemporary Disney character elements woven throughout the welcoming space. And over at Disney California Adventure, Imagineering tackled one of those trickier design challenges: how do you transition guests smoothly between two very different themed lands? The new pathway connecting Avengers Campus and Cars Land solves it beautifully. On the Avengers side, the corridor takes on the look of a Howard Stark-era bunker, while the Cars Land side transforms into a vintage Route 66 mechanic shop rest stop, with the restroom facility itself pulling double duty on the theming. It is one of those details that Disney fans are going to absolutely love discovering.
