Well, today is the day. The street signs have been reflecting the change, as well as maps and such on location…. Officially, Downtown Disney is no more, and Disney Springs is in effect. Oh the changes. I know a lot of Disney fans don’t care for that. I for one usually fight change, but since moving to Central Florida, my horizons have opened up a bit.

I love Downtown Disney, I always have. I love the night life there, the shops, the food. Heck, I still miss Pleasure Island. The clubs and the New Years Eve countdowns nightly were so much fun. But alas, it’s only a distant memory. We all got used to the change. Even me, who hates change.

If you go to the DTD area now, or even in the not so distant past, you can see ALL the changes and construction that’s going on. Everything is evolving, and new stores and restaurants are being added. That’s a good thing. I know a lot of people are not happy with the construction and such, but it’s going to be so nice once it’s finished. The new walkways are opening across the road, to make getting to the area safer for guests. The parking garage is super easy to use and convenient. It’s going to be great once all is said and done, you can see that when you visit, it’s exciting.

So, today marks the end of and era, Downtown Disney. Disney Springs is here to stay, and it’s really coming along nicely. For those who fight change, it’s ok. After all, I know a lot of you out there still call Hollywood Studios, MGM, and that’s fine. For me, I’ll probably still call Disney Springs, Downtown Disney, for awhile. Old habits die hard. I’m excited to see what’s to come still, what about you? Tell us your thoughts in the comments, as feedback is always appreciated! ~M

  1. I, too, normally don’t like change but Disney World was in great need for it throughout. I am a little concerned with it being a little too high class now, especially with a lot of shops that sell very expensive merchandise. While Disney Springs should attract classy patrons, we local folks would love a place that we can afford to shop at frequently. I feel that this area is more geared towards guests to central Florida, but I could be totally wrong. I also wish Disney didn’t do so many changes all at once through each theme park. It really diminishes the amount of rides and areas that are open, almost making the value of a park ticket way too little for the price of it.
