Spider man Brand New Day Composer Reveals He Wanted to make a Sad Spider man MovieMichael Giacchino just gave fans a whole new reason to brace themselves for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Speaking at the Musical Anatomy of a Superhero panel during San Diego Comic-Con, the composer opened up about the emotional direction he took with Peter Parker’s theme this time around, and it sounds like this movie is going to hit different.

Giacchino explained that after scoring three previous Spider-Man films, he wanted to try something new with the score. He shared that he brought an idea to director Destin Daniel Cretton about stripping down Peter’s theme piece by piece, mirroring how much of Peter’s life has been taken from him since the ending of No Way Home. “I want to make a sad Spider-Man movie,” Giacchino told the crowd, adding that stripping the theme back to its most basic form felt like the right call, even joking he probably should have tried it a few movies earlier.

It’s a fitting approach given where we left Peter Parker. After being erased from everyone’s memories at the end of No Way Home, he’s essentially starting over completely alone, with MJ and Ned no longer remembering who he is. A stripped down, emotional score lines up perfectly with a story about rebuilding a life from scratch.
