Did You Know: Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs

In 1937, Walt Disney released the masterpiece Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  Disney’s first Princess debuted, also, we had the first full length animated film.  This movie honestly changed so much of how animated films are made and still inspires artists to this day.  If you know the history of the film, it’s really an amazing feat that it even made it to the big screen.  Walt never let his dream of this film die, no matter what he had in his way. Here are 11 things you may or may not know about Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

1. During production, Walt Disney referred to the “Seven Dwarfs” as the “Seven Little Men.”

2. Snow White’s forest journey was originally going to start in a location called “Upsidedownland.”

3. Some of the rejected dwarf names included Jumpy, Baldy, Hickey, Sniffy, Stuffy, Shorty, and Burpy.

4. An early version of the film’s story included a scene in which the Queen captured the Prince and held him captive in her castle.

5. For a while, “Dopey” was called “Seventh” because the animators couldn’t quite decide what characteristics they wanted to give him.

6. One of the film’s deleted scenes features the dwarfs happily slurping their soup, and Snow White teaching them how to eat like gentlemen.

7. Snow White was originally supposed to be blonde.

8. One animator suggested giving  all of the dwarfs’ clothing facial expressions made from buttons, patches and stitching.

9. One week after the premiere of the film, Walt Disney appeared on the December 27, 1937 issue of Time magazine.

10. In 1939, Walt Disney received eight special Academy Award for the film. (One regular-sized and seven teeny tiny!)
