Irrational Crying, Courtesy of Disney!

This weekend, we needed a little Disney fix and headed out to the Disney Store. As most of you know, the Disney Store plays videos with great songs and Disney movie clips during your shopping experience. Well, I was browsing through a rack of clothes that came from Disneyland, and my nose started to burn, my eyes started to get teary. Why you ask? Was there such a great sale that it brought tears to my eyes? No. There was a clip playing from The Little Mermaid on their tv’s. Part of Your World was on….. and I started to cry! I thought to myself, “Seriously Michele, crying over this song, really?” Yes, really. It always reminds me of sitting in Mickey’s PhilharMagic at the Magic Kingdom, and I totally cry through that show, no clue as to why. So, I bit my tongue, got a grip, and kept shopping. A few minutes later, Let It Go from Frozen comes on. You guessed it. Burning nose, watery eyes, yet again. I had my inner dialogue going, telling myself to “knock it off before people think you’re nuts!” What is wrong with me? Disney turns me into a crying mess, no matter where I find it. Does this happen to you?

There’s something about Disney Music that can pull on a persons heart strings. I can’t really say why, but for me, certain songs make me well up in less than 10 seconds. Disney causes irrational crying, I swear it does! If something strikes me out of the blue, I can go from zero to mess pretty quickly! Do you think that’s part of the Magic that is Disney? How do they do that? If I can get emotional in the Disney Store, I’m sure you can imagine how I am while at the Parks. I don’t walk around bawling like a baby, but certain things do trigger my tear button. Like I mentioned above, Philarmagic gets me crying. It’s the music, and the sites that surround you I believe that can overwhelm a person with emotion. I just love that show, it’s always a must do, and I have a napkin handy for tear wiping just in case. Wishes gets me every time as well. The show on the Castle, where they show Walt himself welcoming everyone to this Happy Place….. oh forget it! Where are the tissues? Again, overwhelming emotion. Let’s see…. where else do I have emotional breakdowns at Disney…. hmmmm. Ok, Festival of the Lion King, One Man’s Dream, The Great Movie Ride (I know, pathetic), seeing Mickey on parade floats, just to name a few. Oh, and when we’re leaving the Magic Kingdom for the last time, I think I cry from the gates to the monorail, and the ride to the parking lot. I need Disney therapy!

Even sitting in a movie theater for a Disney film gets me, when the opening credits come and you see the Disney Castle and hear When You Wish Upon a Star, tears every time. I always cry at some point during a Disney movie, no matter what it is. I know during the film, something will tug my heart, and the tears will flow. My gosh, Saving Mr. Banks made me cry for the last 15 minutes of the movie, if you recall my blog and review! It was rough. Disney really knows what they’re doing when it comes to gripping an audience. I have never seen or heard anything that comes close to making me feel the way Disney does. There’s just something magical about what they do, and they do it well. Sure, sometimes I may look like a crazy person, tearing up over the little things, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. There are so many things in life that make us cry unhappy tears. Disney causes the happy kind, and I think it’s great. I can’t see those feelings ever going away, and I truly don’t want them to. True Disney fans really “get it” when it comes to the Magic and what it does, and I totally get it. So, I will continue to seek out Disney destinations, films, music, etc…. and just remember to keep the kleenex on hand. How about you? ~M

  1. We took our son to The Disney Store to tell him he would be going to Disney world for the very first time! As I sat on the floor crying a CM came up to tell us the “parade” would be starting! I must have looked a fool. He is 6 was a bit overwhelmed so he is more excited now than when we were in the store with me blubbering! I CAN’T WAIT TO GO!
