This year was the first year I was able to attend Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. To say it was magical would be an understatement. I was a kid in a candy store, where all the candy was free! My first MNSSHP was on a Friday with my sister. It was so amazing that I dragged my other Disney friend there on the following Tuesday. Let me start with my favorite part: the parade. I was utterly mesmerized by it. Just to set the mood, they start the parade by having the headless horseman gallop down the street on a black horse. I do not care how old you are, seeing that will send chills down your spine. I am a huge Haunted Mansion fan, so to see that represented so well in the parade was fantastic. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the Caretaker walking down the street with his dog, followed by the gravediggers. The routine of the gravediggers was amazing, and that’s all I will say because I do not want to give away the best part. All the dance routines in the parade were wonderful– from the pirates with the flags, to the Haunted Mansion Ballroom dancers, to the country line dancers.

The next biggest thrills to see were all the Halloween costumes people were wearing. A lot of thought and hard work went into a number of the costumes that I saw. You name it and I saw it, pretty much. There was even a group of Ghost Busters. They not only decorated their cars to look like the Ghost Buster vehicles, but they were also walking around the park, inspecting people for ghostly activity. The people wearing green got the most attention because they looked like Slimer.

My goal on the second night was to get pictures with as many rare or dressed-up characters as I could find. I managed to get my picture taken with 23 characters in total. All seven dwarfs were out together, as well as Genie and Abu, and Jack and Sally. Goofy, Donald Duck and Daisy, and Pooh and friends were all in Halloween costumes. We did not do any rides in order to accomplish our photographic endeavors, but we come weekly, so that was fine with us.

Of course, I must give credit to the firework show also. Disney says you can see it anywhere in the park but I would suggest out in the Liberty Square area on the dock by the riverboat. It was not very crowded there and we got to see a lot of the fireworks. The finale is the best part where they shoot off fireworks around the park and the whole place is lit up. It is definitely something to see at least once.

They do have a villain’s show that goes on at the center stage of Cinderella’s castle but I cannot comment on that because I did not catch it. From what I hear, it is cool, but you can watch it online and feel like you have not missed anything by not seeing it live.

To top off all of these amazing experiences, they let even the big kids, a.k.a. me, go trick-or-treating. To get candy and not have to visit all the houses on the block was definitely my favorite way to trick-or-treat!

I solemnly swear to never let another year go by without seeing MNSSHP. If you have the opportunity to go see it, then do it. You will not regret it. It is the most amazing (not so scary) Halloween Party that you will ever attend.
