If you’re already counting down to the Christmas movie season, add this one to your list. Paramount just dropped a brand-new trailer for Ebenezer, and it looks like nothing we’ve seen from this story before. I’m so excited, check it out!
Johnny Depp stars as Ebenezer Scrooge in this gothic, horror tinted take on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. And when I say he transforms, he transforms. Salt and pepper hair, colored contacts, the full scowl. He’s nearly unrecognizable! The tagline says it best: “The name you know, the story you don’t.”
Behind the camera is Ti West, the director behind X, Pearl, and MaXXXine, so you already know this isn’t going to be your cozy, made for TV version. The trailer leans hard into genuine ghost story chills, with the three spirits treated like real horror imagery. Dark, spooky atmosphere, and honestly? It looks incredible. Again, not the story we are used to, and that’s a good thing!
The Cast Is Fantastic
• Johnny Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge
• Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley
• Rupert Grint as Bob Cratchit
• Daisy Ridley as Emily Cratchit
• Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past
• Tramell Tillman as the Ghost of Christmas Present
• Sam Claflin as Fred
•Ian McKellen as Marley warning Scrooge that he “will be haunted by three spirits”? Oh, he sure will be!
Why This One Matters
This is Depp’s first major studio film since 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and his first big Hollywood lead since everything went down in 2022. He surprised everyone by showing up in full Scrooge costume at San Diego Comic-Con this summer, and the response was crazy good! He even ends the trailer with a wink: “It’s good to be back. Love it!
When Can We See It?
Ebenezer hits theaters November 13, 2026, just in time to kick off the holiday movie season.
I’ll be honest, I’m intrigued. A Christmas Carol is one of those stories that’s been done a hundred times. But a dark, gothic version from a horror director with Johnny Depp going full transformation? That’s new. This is one I don’t want to miss. Also, seeing Ebenezer at a theater will be a must rather than streaming. You have to get the full experience! Are you planning to see it? Let me know what you thought of the trailer! Stay tuned to The Main Street Mouse for more updates, we are so excited for the holiday season!
