Saying Goodbye to “It’s Tough to Be a Bug” at Animal Kingdom! Today was the final day of operation for this opening day attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, so we headed over to bid it a proper farewell! Usually when an attraction or area at a Disney park closes, the masses come out to see it one more time. Today, It’s Tough to Be a Bug had a full house in both shows we attended, but it was much less crowded than I expected.
In previous years, attractions like the Backlot Tour at Hollywood Studios or of course Splash Mountain at MK, the last days were crazy! Animal Kingdom recently closed Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama to make way for the new land that’s being built. Even though it wasn’t super crowded, people still came out for a last ride on TriceraTop Spin! I think some attractions that are about to retire get more attention than others, but that doesn’t mean that they’re aren’t sentimental for some.
For me, I put sentimental value on so many things in life, especially Disney trips with my family. We have lived near Walt Disney World for almost 11 years, not to mention a lot of trips here when we lived in Michigan. Disney was the only place I took my sons then, wonderful memories have been made. When we moved here, obviously Disney was our favorite pastime so we were at the parks a lot. I do miss so many things that are now gone, but the memories attached are still very much present.
When it comes to Animal Kingdom, Dinoland USA was a favorite for my sons. They loved walking back there, checking out the store etc. As for It’s Tough to Be a Bug, we saw it a little less but they still liked it. I think the last time we went in there as a family, it was a few years back. Ken Jeong and his family were in there as well, but we didn’t bother him. See, random memories! Mostly, I’d take a picture of my younger son by the sign because I’ve called him Bug since he was a baby! Granted, we did the same at A Bugs Land in Disneyland which is also gone. I’ll cherish all of those moments, even if they’re just memories. Sigh, time goes by so fast.
Being that Disney parks are always changing and evolving, this will continue to happen to make way for new attractions and such. I know a lot of Disney fans are not great about change, myself included, but we have so much to look forward to. Even someone like me who puts a sentimental value on basically everything! Walt wanted it this way. So, I’m glad that we went to see the show again before it is closed for good. I definitely will cherish those memories, but I’m also looking forward to everything that’s to come! So many additions are coming to Walt Disney World, and I’m embracing them all, (although I’m a little sad about a few.) We just have to keep moving forward!
