Big changes are coming to Pixar Animation Studios. The Walt Disney Company has announced that longtime Pixar President Jim Morris is moving into the role of president emeritus, and Jonathan Garson will become Pixar’s new president on January 4, 2027.

The leadership changes were announced by Alan Bergman, chairman of Disney Entertainment and Studios, who praised Morris as a Pixar person through and through and said the studio is in very good hands.
Jim Morris Steps Back After 12 Years as President
Morris joined Pixar in 2005 and has served as its president for the past 12 years. During his time leading the studio, Pixar’s films have earned more than $12 billion at the worldwide box office. Before Pixar, he spent many years at Lucasfilm, bringing his time across the two studios to nearly 40 years.
Morris isn’t going far. In his new role, he’ll stay involved with Pixar’s slate, including serving as an executive producer on Incredibles 3, due in theaters in June 2028. He’ll also focus on talent development, mentoring and technology initiatives across Pixar and Walt Disney Studios.
Meet Pixar’s New President, Jonathan Garson
Garson has been with Disney for more than 30 years and joined Pixar in 2010. He most recently served as Pixar’s general manager and previously led the studio’s worldwide marketing and franchise team. He’ll report to Bergman and work closely with Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter, who remains in his role.
In his statement, Garson shared that he still remembers seeing Toy Story for the first time, never imagining he’d one day help lead the studio.
Jonas Rivera Promoted to Lead Creative
Longtime Pixar producer Jonas Rivera has also been promoted to executive vice president of creative. Rivera, who started at Pixar as the studio’s very first production intern, has worked on nearly every Pixar film and was an executive producer on Inside Out 2 and Toy Story 5. In his new role, he’ll oversee Pixar’s directors, development, casting and more, working in partnership with Docter.
What’s Next for Pixar

The new leadership team steps in as Pixar heads into a busy few years, including:
- Gatto, in theaters March 5, 2027
- Incredibles 3, in theaters June 16, 2028
- Coco 2, coming in November 2029
