Something wonderful is on the way for Wicked fans! Mattel is releasing a new pair of Elphaba and Glinda collector dolls designed with Academy Award winning Wicked costume designer Paul Tazewell, arriving in spring 2027. The dolls made their first public appearance today at the Wicked Oztacular Spectacular at Universal CityWalk Orlando.
Elphaba’s Look
Elphaba wears a dramatic high collared bolero, an angular bodice and a voluminous skirt that fades from dark black into pink toward the hem. The look is finished with her signature pointed hat and heels. The design was reportedly inspired by mushrooms growing on mossy trees and asymmetrical bird plumage, a perfect fit for Elphaba’s connection to nature and the animals of Oz.
Glinda’s Look
Glinda shines in a pink mermaid silhouette gown with oversized, petal shaped shoulders and pale green details along the skirt, topped with a sparkling crown. Her design draws inspiration from flower petals and butterfly wings.
A Friendship Stitched Into Every Detail
The most magical part of these dolls is how they reflect each other. Elphaba’s skirt fades into Glinda’s signature pink, while Glinda’s gown features touches of Elphaba’s chartreuse green. It is a sweet nod to the friendship at the heart of Wicked and the idea that each witch changed the other for good.
About Paul Tazewell
Paul Tazewell won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for Wicked, becoming the first Black man to win the category. He also designed the costumes for Wicked: For Good and won a Tony Award for his costumes for Hamilton on Broadway. These dolls bring his signature style into collectors’ hands.
