Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland is preparing to race into an entirely new era.

During D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event presented by Visa, Disney revealed new details about Piston Peak National Park, the massive new area inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Cars. The presentation included the announcement of a second attraction, the official name and storyline for the land’s off-road racing adventure, and new information about the revolutionary technology being developed for its ride vehicles.
Michael Hundgen, Vice President Creative for Walt Disney World, and Imagineer Jason Grandt shared the announcements during a presentation on the Horizons: A Carousel of Progress stage.
Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along Announced

The newly announced second attraction coming to Piston Peak National Park is Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along.
Inspired by the “Diva of Demolition” from Cars 3, the attraction will feature Miss Fritter as a massive, school-bus-sized Audio-Animatronic character.
Miss Fritter will serve as the host of a lively, stampeding celebration centered around what Disney describes as her wildest demolition derby yet. While additional information about the ride system and guest experience has not been revealed, the attraction appears poised to offer a playful experience for families visiting the new land.

Its arrival will give Piston Peak a second major attraction alongside its previously announced off-road rally adventure.
Get Ready for Cars Ridge Run Rally
Disney also revealed the official name and new storyline details for Piston Peak’s racing attraction: Cars Ridge Run Rally.
Imagineer Jason Grandt described the experience as a search for the wildest racer in the “wheelderness.” Guests will compete to record the “fastest lap in the west” while racing through landscapes inspired by America’s national parks.
The journey will take racers across a variety of rugged environments, including ridges, rivers, mud flats, forest trails, and rocky terrain. Vehicles will also climb Piston Peak itself, eventually reaching an icy, snow-covered mountaintop.
The frosty summit is expected to become an especially dramatic sight after sunset. Once racers reach the top, however, the only way forward will be down.

From a Snowy Summit to a Geyser Field
After climbing Piston Peak, riders will plunge into a camelback descent before continuing through an active geyser field.
The course will circle the Old Tankfull geyser before sending racers toward the finish line. Lightning McQueen and Mater will cover the competition live for the Racing Sports Network, bringing two of the franchise’s most recognizable characters into the attraction’s story.
Disney’s detailed model of Piston Peak National Park offers an early look at the enormous scale of the experience. The 225-square-foot model, displayed inside the Imagineering: Horizons pavilion at D23, includes the rally course, waterfalls, waterways, mountainous terrain, geysers, trails, and other features planned for the land.
New Ride Vehicles Will React to the Terrain
Cars Ridge Run Rally will introduce an entirely new ride vehicle created specifically for the attraction.
Rather than using a traditional ride system to simulate an off-road adventure, Disney says the vehicle will operate like an actual off-road car. Its tires and suspension will physically drive across and react to the terrain beneath it.
Guests will reportedly feel the individual bumps, rocks, and drops as the vehicle moves through the course. The goal is to create an experience in which the environment and the ride vehicle work together, making the attraction feel different from a conventional simulated race.
Disney described the technology as unlike typical theme park ride systems and said construction progress is already fully underway.

How Piston Peak Fits Into Frontierland
The addition of a land based on Cars has generated plenty of discussion about how the modern Pixar franchise will fit alongside the historic environments of Liberty Square and Frontierland.
Disney says Piston Peak National Park has been designed to continue the geographical and architectural journey that has existed across this section of Magic Kingdom since opening day.
Guests begin with the colonial American influences of Liberty Square before traveling west through the North Woods atmosphere surrounding Grizzly Hall. The journey continues through the New Orleans setting of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and into the Arizona-inspired landscape of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
Piston Peak will extend that progression into a wilderness inspired by the Rocky Mountains, the American Frontier, and the country’s national parks.
Welcome to Piston Peak National Park

Although Piston Peak is a fictional location, its design draws inspiration from real American landscapes and national park history.
The land will feature:
- Towering forests
- Snowcapped mountains
- Waterfalls and roaring rivers
- Geyser fields
- A visitor lodge
- Ranger Headquarters
- Wilderness trails
- Off-road racing environments
Disney Imagineers are using an architectural approach known as “Parkitecture” throughout the area. Developed by the National Park Service, the style uses materials, colors, and designs that allow buildings to blend naturally with the landscape surrounding them.
Trees will create a natural visual barrier between the off-road rally and nearby areas of Frontierland and Liberty Square. Across from Grizzly Hall, guests will see rugged mountain peaks positioned along a calmer waterway. The geysers associated with the landscape around Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will also appear to extend into the trails of the new racing attraction.
These design choices are intended to make Piston Peak feel like an extension of Frontierland rather than an isolated Cars-themed environment.
Magic Kingdom’s Largest Expansion Continues
Piston Peak National Park will be part of the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history, but it is not the only major project planned for the area.
Beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Imagineers are developing the first full theme park land inspired by the Disney Villains. That expansion is planned to include two major attractions alongside new dining and shopping experiences.
Together, Piston Peak and the Disney Villains land will dramatically expand Magic Kingdom’s footprint and introduce several new experiences beyond the park’s existing boundaries.
Disney has not yet announced an opening date for Piston Peak National Park or either of its attractions. However, with construction underway and new details now being shared, guests are getting their clearest look yet at the future of Frontierland.
From Miss Fritter’s enormous Audio-Animatronic appearance to the snowy summit and terrain-responsive vehicles of Cars Ridge Run Rally, Piston Peak is shaping up to be far more than a traditional character-based expansion. It will combine the personality and humor of Cars with the scenery, architecture, and adventurous spirit of the American wilderness.
The race to Piston Peak has officially begun and Magic Kingdom’s new frontier is taking shape.
