The Society of Explorers and Adventurers is preparing to chart a new course at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. From August 14–16, 2026, the legendary organization known as S.E.A. will join Walt Disney Imagineering inside the Imagineering Pavilion for a special appearance filled with history, mystery, and the promise of discovery.
Whether you have followed S.E.A.’s adventures for years or are encountering the Society for the first time, its D23 presentation could offer a fascinating look at one of Imagineering’s most elaborate interconnected stories.
What Is the Society of Explorers and Adventurers?
The Society of Explorers and Adventurers is an organization devoted to adventure, exploration, innovation, and the preservation of knowledge.
Its mission is to reveal truths, right wrongs, and live to tell the tale. The Society’s original Latin motto, “Exploratio continua,” translates to “continued exploration.” In the modern era, that motto is accompanied by three equally important words: “wonder, explore, and discover.”
Throughout its long history, S.E.A. members have mounted expeditions into the unknown, documented the discoveries of fellow adventurers, protected artistic achievements, and created imaginative inventions that expanded humanity’s ability to explore.
Members have climbed towering mountain peaks, traveled along the world’s longest rivers, uncovered lost artifacts, and ventured into places that remain largely unknown.
The Origins of S.E.A.
The Society traces its roots as far back as the 1500s, when it was founded by a distinguished group of mariners, scientists, inventors, and artists.
Its earliest known headquarters was the legendary Fortress Explorations. Within its walls, explorers exchanged stories about their expeditions, discussed new inventions, and shared knowledge that could inspire future discoveries.
Since those early days, S.E.A. has remained a center of ingenuity and exploration. Its members carefully document the Society’s history, retrace the journeys of past adventurers, preserve mysterious artifacts, and organize modern expeditions to under-researched locations.
Simply put, the Society works to identify, conserve, and curate the unknown. For S.E.A., every unanswered question presents an opportunity for another adventure.
Who Are the Members of S.E.A.?
Disney fans may already recognize names such as Mary Oceaneer, Dr. Albert Falls, Lord Henry Mystic, Camellia Falco, and Harrison Hightower III.
The Society’s members come from many different backgrounds. They are explorers, academics, artists, athletes, inventors, historians, and more. Many combine several areas of expertise, allowing them to approach mysteries from different perspectives.
Camellia Falco, for example, was an accomplished aviator who invented devices to help expand humanity’s understanding of flight. Her creations also allowed her to embark on daring adventures across the skies.
Evidence of S.E.A. and its members can be discovered throughout Disney destinations around the world. Guests may encounter Dr. Falls’ maps, explore Lord Mystic’s manor filled with historical curiosities, or notice the names of Society members and their expeditions hidden among attraction details.
No matter their individual specialties, all S.E.A. members share two defining qualities: an endless sense of curiosity and an unwavering desire for adventure.
What Is S.E.A. Bringing to D23 2026?
S.E.A. is collaborating with Walt Disney Imagineering to share more about the organization and the fascinating adventurers who make up its membership.
During the presentation, guests can expect to learn more about the Society’s history, its members, and possibly a few mysteries that have managed to elude even its most experienced explorers.
The biggest mystery, however, may be contained inside a newly rediscovered crate.
For the past three months, an S.E.A. archivist has been cataloging artifacts from the Society’s enormous collection. The process reportedly uncovered incredible pieces of history, including elaborate Greek amphoras associated with Lord Henry Mystic and “acquired” sarcophagi connected to Harrison Hightower III.
Among those discoveries was a mysterious crate that had apparently remained unopened for at least a century.
That crate is now making its way to D23, but there is one small complication: neither S.E.A. nor Walt Disney Imagineering knows what is inside.
The artifact will become part of the Society’s D23 presentation, offering attendees the opportunity to share in the excitement of uncovering another piece of S.E.A. history.
