When we attended D23 in Anaheim last month, we had the opportunity to meet so many people that support us and follow what we do. In addition, we were able to meet many vendors who work with Disney/Marvel/Star Wars/Etc. Over the course of 3 days, I frequently stopped by a booth that caught my attention right away. Being a big Marvel fan, whenever I see that bright red color with the familiar logo, I’m drawn to it like a bug to a light.
Attending conventions and such as often as we do, we see many vendors with jewelry for different properties. I’ve always looked at the Marvel pieces but never found anything I thought was worth the cost. They were cheaply made or had imperfections that I just couldn’t justify the price. Upon looking at the jewelry at the What’s Your Passion booth, I could tell this was different. The jewelry was very well designed and made. The reporter in me instantly started asking questions. Just then the owner and designer, Ari Kathein stepped up and we got to talk more. Ari’s family has been in the fine jewelry business for over 35 years and he is a GIA Graduate Gemologist. He puts a lot of great detail into each piece that he creates and it shows.
Ari asked me if I would be interested in doing a review of his Spider-Man ring and of course, I was excited to share it with our readers. He fit me for the ring, to make sure I had the exact size for comfort and security on my finger. The thing I noticed instantly was the weight. It wasn’t heavy enough to be uncomfortable, but heavy enough to realize it was well made. It felt very comfortable on my finger once he found my size. Next, I began to examine the detail. The Spider-Man logo on the top is very impressive. It really stands out on the ring and there is no doubt what the logo is. The gold with the silver background really makes the logo pop. The sides of the ring have great detail to look like the webs Spidey shoots.
Most of the time, as a geek, you can’t wear the jewelry and such in a professional environment because it just doesn’t look good enough. That is not the case with these rings. Whether you are dressing up for a night out, going to work in an office or just visiting your local comic book shop, this ring will fit in anywhere.
When it comes to the details of the ring, I wanted to share the exact description from the What’s Your Passion website:
What’s Your Passion has crafted this ring by starting with official Marvel schematics. This piece is available in sterling silver or 14kt gold. For the silver, we coat the ring in a layer of rhodium for lasting protection from the elements and add a layer of 18kt yellow gold overlay on top of the silver to bring an impressive depth to the design.
The total diameter of the head of this ring (side to side) is 19 mm
This ring is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity lined with gold foil and packaged in a custom-designed box that can be instantly transformed into a display case!
I didn’t want to write this review before really testing the ring out for a few days. I wanted to wear it in my normal day to day interactions. I wanted to get a feel for it and see if it was still comfortable after a couple of days. I can honestly say I love it. Never having worn a ring on that finger before at first was a bit awkward but after a day or so it was comfortable. I loved showing it to people and talking about it.
When I was speaking with Ari at D23, I learned that What’s Your Passion is a family run business. Ari and his sister run the company and he has his best friend working for him also. His quote to me was, “I’m a geeky jeweler making geek jewelry with my family and my best friends.” He has such a passion for his jewelry and is very proud of what he has created. I want to thank Ari for allowing me to review his jewelry and becoming a friend. Stay tuned, as he releases new items we will be sure to share them with all of you.
