The operator of Wolfgang Puck Grand Café intends to lay off 193 workers when closing its Disney Springs on Aug. 1, according to a notice filed with the state.
A new location for Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill is planned in the Town Center area of Disney’s shopping and dining complex, the official Disney Parks Blog reported recently.
The current restaurant, now confirmed to be closing, is on the west side of Disney Springs near the theater dedicated to Cirque du Soleil. An employee who answered the phone at the restaurant confirmed the Aug. 1 closing date.
The new restaurant “will capture the essence of laid-back California dining made popular by Puck at Spago, his flagship restaurant in Los Angeles,” the parks blog said.
Wolfgang Puck Café is operated by Chicago-based Levy Restaurants, which filed the layoff notice. Attempts to contact Levy were not successful. There was no indication about whether the laid off workers would be given first crack at rehire for the new restaurant.
Another restaurant operated by Levy, Portobello Country Italian Trattoria in Disney Springs, has also closed for major renovations.
At that location, restaurant operator Levy Restaurants released a statement saying it is “working with James Beard Award-winning Chef Tony Mantuano on developing a new, authentic Italian concept featuring a family style menu along with craft Italian beers and wines.”
