In November we announced that the new MagicBand 2 bands would be released to resort and park guests soon. Today The Disney Store and Shop Disney Parks app are offering guests the chance to buy the first two Limited Edition release MagicBand 2 designs released to the public. The Magic Kingdom 45th Anniversary Limited Edition MagicBand 2 has an edition size of 2,500 and comes in a special collectible presentation box and features ‘it’s a small world” images. The Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Limited Edition Krennic MagicBand 2 has an edition size of 2,000 and also comes in a special collectible presentation box and features Director Krennic and Imperial designs. There is a purchase limit of 2 of each design per guest.
The new MagicBand 2 will link to My Disney Experience just like the original MagicBands. It will still serve as a theme park ticket, access to FastPass+ selections, Disney PhotoPass card as well as a room key for Disney Resort guests. Older MagicBands will still continue to work as the technology inside the two styles is the same, only the outside has changed. Only MagicBand2 will be mailed to resort guests.
For those unfamiliar with MagicBand 2, the new bands will work just like the ones we have been using for the last few years, minus one big change. You will be able to remove the center of the band (called an Icon) with a small screw driver. You can then take the icon and place it in MagicKeepers accessories using the same screwdriver and hardware.
Currently MagicKeepers accessories have not been released on the Disney Store online or Shop Disney Parks app, but you can expect to see MagicKeepers themed lanyards and carabiner clips being released “at a future date” per Disney. Once Disney confirms and releases MagicKeeper release information we will share that with you! Guests with original MagicBands can still continue to use them as the technology inside the bands hasn’t changed at all, you just won’t be able to use MagicKeeper accessories with your original MagicBands.
Disney has also confirmed that they will be releasing two retail MagicBand 2 designs for 2017 on December 19.
