Happy 4th of July! And what better way to celebrate then to get outside and pound some pavement!!
My hometown offers a race where you can choose your distance: 1 mile, 5K, or 10K. Like any great race, it offers a family friendly environment, live music, and coincides with the downtown holiday festivities. You can choose to partake in some adult beverages, enjoy local food, watch the parade, and start staking out your space for the evening firework spectacular.
Holiday races also allow you to show off your festive side! My hometown race offers a costume contest for different categories. Costumes range from simple, i.e. a red/blue/white or flag shirt to extremely elaborate – I’ve seen a Lady Liberty run the 10K. She was glorious. Winners often get a gift certificate to a local restaurant. Since the race is family friendly, there are people of all ages, including the tiniest runners who get some aid from Mom or Dad by being pushed along the course! And those tiny tots have been quite festive as well – wearing some pretty awesome head gear!
In fact, our family has made a tradition of running holiday races, and it’s a great way to incorporate staying fit and healthy into your holiday routine!
Hope everyone has a spectacular 4th and happy running!
