Star Wars box office numbers are coming in and the movie, as predicted, is shattering so many records at the box office. The movie debuted in some markets and theaters Thursday night, and brought in $57 million. As of December 18, 2015, The Force Awakens has grossed $120.5 million in North America and $129.5 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $250 million, against a budget of $200 million. Its grosses exceeded its estimated $200 million production cost just 3 days after its release.
Everyone knew this film was going to shatter the box office numbers, but I don’t know how many thought it would not only beat, but shatter the previous records. This year, Jurassic World set the records and The Force Awakens is just surpassing it with ease. Here we are Sunday and fans are still lining up to see the film, some for the second, third and even the fourth time.
I did get to see the film on Thursday and I did love the movie. I will be doing a review in the next few days, I wanted to wait to let others have the time to see it without spoiling it right out of the gate. Was it the best Star Wars film from all the films? Everyone has their opinion and everyone can debate what makes one film better than the others.
We now have to wait till 2017 for Episode VIII to see where these characters go and what happens next. In 2016, we get to see the Rogue One film which shows us the story of the Rebels that took on the mission to steal the Death Star plans that was the storyline for Episode IV: A New Hope. The best part of all this, Star Wars fans don’t have to wait a decade for a new film now.
