From the Disney Insider
At the D23 Expo this summer during the live action presentation, a substantial amount of footage was shown from Captain America: Civil War (in theaters May 6, 2016). The footage was absolutely mind-blowing, to the point that we could barely make out some of the dialogue, because the applause from the audience was so deafeningly thunderous. So one of the many reasons we’re excited about the just-released Captain America: Civil War trailer is that we can watch it again and again and again. And we will, because it’s that awesome.
Captain America: Civil War, based on the blockbuster 2006–2007 limited series by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, pits Captain America (played in the film once more by Chris Evans) against Iron Man (a returning Robert Downey, Jr.) over the fairness and legality of the recently implemented Superhero Registration Act. (Cap is against the act; Iron Man is for it.) As the trailer teases, Captain America: Civil War is going to be a superhero smorgasbord, with appearances from Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), The Vision (Paul Bettany), and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd). The film will also introduce a pair of superheroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and the new Spider-Man (Tom Holland).
As you can tell from both the trailer and the new poster (above), lines will be drawn and allegiances will be tested and it’s going to be so, so cool.
It seems like Captain America: Civil War could shake up the Marvel Cinematic Universe like 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which revealed that the virtuous S.H.I.E.L.D. had been compromised by the dastardly Hydra, since these characters (many of whom serve together as part of the Avengers) will be trading words … and blows.
Returning to direct Captain America: Civil War are the Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony, who are reteaming with much of their creative team from that film, including screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, composer Henry Jackman, and cinematographer Trent Opaloch. Considering how amazing Captain America: The Winter Soldier was, and how much bigger a story Captain America: Civil War will be, we can’t help but be incredibly excited for this new movie, in the most superheroic way possible.
