It was 20 years ago today, The Lion King was generally released in the US. Originally it was released in limited markets on the 15th of June.
The 32nd Disney animated film featured many well known actors voicing the different characters, which included Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Matthew Broderick, James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Cummings and Nathan Lane. Most Disney films up to this point only had a few well known voices and then more lesser known actors to fill in. In this film, nearly every voice was done by a well known and accomplished actor.
In addition to the terrific actors in the film, I absolutely love the music from the film. To this day, I can listen to each of the songs over and over and never seem to get tired of them. The award winning music was from Hans Zimmer, Tim Rice and of course Elton John.
The Lion King is one of the most successful Disney films ever, and still ranks #19 on the all time highest grossing films.
