Moving to Main Street ~ Our Journey this Past Week!

Castle Move

As most of you know, TMSM’s official Headquarters relocated this past week from Michigan to Florida. I really appreciate all of you for following along with our journey, and reading the latest happenings with the move. The decision to make a move across the country wasn’t an easy one, but so far it’s been a good thing. Here’s how things went~

A week ago today, my parents had a Fathers Day / Going Away BBQ at their house. It was a nice opportunity to see my family and friends one more time before heading south. Those who are dearest to us were there, including my Grandma, Brother, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and my two closest friends. Fantastic! As nice as it was, it was also a bit bittersweet. Just knowing I won’t see these people probably until Christmas was a little hard. Having such a close family is a wonderful thing, and I will miss them very much. I’m grateful for my parents having them all over though, it was nice! That evening, we went back to my house to cram some last minute items into the truck, and got ready for our journey to Florida. Oh, and on a side note, we didn’t get a big enough truck and not everything made the cut for the trip! I obviously am not good at estimating, but I digress… We only slept a few hours, got up at 2:00 am, and left around 3:30 in the morning. I was so tired, but excited at the same time. Moving to Florida was something I have wanted to do for years, and I was finally taking the leap and going for it! Scary stuff! So, here we were, driving south on I75, heading out and going to live our dreams…

The drive down really seemed long. Maybe it’s because we had to drive in two vehicles, our family car and the moving truck. Since I drove the family car, I also had my Mom, two kids and the pets all in tow with me. It was crowded and loud in there! We plugged along, spent the night near Macon Georgia, then got up Tuesday morning to finish the drive. By the time I got to Florida and closer to the house, I was so tired and filled with anticipation. I just wanted to get there and get things over with. I wasn’t even excited really, I just wanted to get the kids out of the car and get things done. The house is nice, it really is. The boys were excited that we have a pool with a real palm tree next to it. We didn’t have that in Michigan! Unloading the truck went by really fast, and it didn’t take long to make the house look more like a home. My Mom and Dad stayed a few days with us to help out, and they really DID help us out. They did a lot of work helping us get settled, I really appreciated all they did for us. I knew their time here would go by fast, being that there was so much to do, and I was right. Before we knew it, it was Friday afternoon and it was time for Mom and Dad to head to the airport and fly back to Michigan. That part was hard, I really didn’t want them to leave, I wasn’t ready. When you’re used to seeing your family every week, it’s a huge adjustment to have to switch to every few months. I hope they decide to spend more time down here. It’s only been 2 days and I miss them already.

So… the house is almost unpacked, my family is back home and it’s just me and my kids and hubby in Florida…. alone… now what? Truthfully, it feels like we’re just on vacation. We went and got our Annual Passes for Disney tonight, that part was exciting, but it’s still hard to completely believe. I really feel like I’m on vacation and I’ll be leaving the land of Mickey Mouse and palm trees next week. Not the case. I hope I adjust and don’t get really homesick in a week or two. I love being at Disney so much, so being in this area is a good thing, it feels right. How will I feel in a few weeks? Will I finally get it through my head that this isn’t vacation, it’s a reality, and I’m not going back to Michigan anytime soon? I hope I accept things for what they are and adjust. I can’t say for sure what’s to come, but I can tell you that you’ll all be kept in the loop! It’s been a comfort for me to have our Main Streeters along for the ride. Thank you for “moving” to Main Street with me, can’t wait to tell you more as it comes, and meet up with some of you at the parks!
