If you are a fan of Marvel’s: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. than you are probably a little upset there is no new show this Tuesday. The last 2 episodes have been great and I can’t wait to see the next episode. But we will have to wait a little while for that. Tomorrow, March 18th ABC will be airing a Marvel special called Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe.
With Captain America: The Winter Soldier coming out in a few weeks, Guardians of the Galaxy in a few months and next year Avengers: Age of Ultron. there is so much to coming and fans can’t wait to see how it all ties in together for Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.
Now you may be sitting there wondering, What is the Marvel Cinematic Universe exactly. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is the media franchise and shared fictional universe that is centered on a series of superhero films, independently produced by Marvel Studios and based on characters that appear in publications by Marvel Comics. The franchise has expanded to include comic books, short films, and a television series, with additional television series in development. The shared universe, much like the original Marvel Universe in comic books, was established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters.
Now from what we have learned over time, there are 3 phases to the universe currently. The first Phase started with Iron Man in 2008 and ended with The Avengers in 2012. The other films in Phase 1 were The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger.
We are currently in the middle of Phase 2 which started Iron Man 3 and was followed by Thor: The Dark World. The next film Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be our April 4th. Then Guardians of the Galaxy and Phase 2 ends with Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Phase 3 is set to start with Ant-Man in July 2015 and followed up with Captain America 3 in 2016. I’m sure there will be more movies and releases for Phase 3, but that is all we know for now.
The one-hour special tomorrow night, takes viewers behind the scenes with insightful interviews from Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige and Avengers director Joss Whedon, as well as stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, and more.
One thing I’m really looking forward to in the special, a sneak peek of Avengers: Age of Ultron. I will do a recap of the show either tomorrow night or Wednesday morning for those who aren’t able to watch.
