If you ask most guests to name their favorite spot in Walt Disney World, you will probably hear Cinderella Castle or the Tree of Life. But there is a strong case to be made for a smaller, quieter corner of Disney’s Hollywood Studios that deserves just as much love. Animation Courtyard might not have the tallest icon or the longest lines, but it captures something that feels closer to the heart of what Walt Disney actually wanted his parks to be.

Walt famously said he created Disneyland as a place where parents and children could have fun together, somewhere adults would not just drop their kids off but actually join in. Animation Courtyard feels like the living embodiment of that idea, but at Disney World of course. Walk through it on any given day and you will see grandparents posing for photos with Stitch, dads getting just as excited as their toddlers to meet Goofy, and grown adults lighting up the moment they spot Rapinzel walking by. There is something about this corner of the park that strips away the self consciousness people sometimes carry and lets everyone, no matter their age, become a kid again.

Part of that magic comes from the pacing. Animation Courtyard is not about rushing between thrill rides. It is about lingering. Families gather to wait for their turn with a favorite character, chat with cast members, and just enjoy being together without the pressure of a packed itinerary. That slower rhythm creates space for real connection, the kind of shared joy that turns into the stories families tell for years afterward.

It also helps that the area celebrates the artistry that started it all. This is Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a park built on the legacy of animation and storytelling, and Animation Courtyard puts that history front and center through its character experiences and theming. It is a reminder that before the rides and the technology, there were pencils, paper, and imagination, the very things Walt built his entire company on.

So while the big thrill rides will always draw a crowd, do not overlook Animation Courtyard on your next visit. Slow down, meet a few characters, and watch your own family become kids again for an afternoon. Do you think Animation Courtyard deserves more credit? Let us know in the comments!
