Marvel fans have been buzzing with theories and rumors surrounding Avengers: Doomsday for months now, and a new interview with directors Joe and Anthony Russo may have just added fuel to one of the biggest ones — the possible return of Wanda Maximoff.
In a recent interview, the Russo brothers confirmed something that immediately caught fans’ attention: when they began work on Doomsday, they did not have a completed script. The directors explained their approach by saying, “We always view the script as a living organism…We’re improvisation-based, rehearsal-based directors.”
While that statement on its own might give some fans pause, it actually ties directly into one of the most talked-about rumors swirling around the film — that late-stage reshoots have been taking place, possibly as recently as last week, and that those reshoots are being done specifically to add additional surprise cameos to the movie.
Up until now, that rumor felt like speculation. But the Russo brothers’ own words about treating the script as a “living organism” suddenly make the idea of late reshoots feel a lot more plausible. And if reshoots are happening, fans are holding out hope that one of those additions could be Elizabeth Olsen returning as Scarlet Witch.
Wanda Maximoff has been one of the most requested returns in the MCU ever since her death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Doomsday — with its multiversal scale — feels like the perfect opportunity to bring her back. Nothing has been confirmed, of course, but the Russo brothers’ comments have definitely given that theory a little more life.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters May 1, 2026. We’ll be keeping a close eye on any further developments!
