The dark side may be getting its own spotlight very soon. Rumors have been swirling across the Star Wars fan community that Lucasfilm is in early development on a standalone Darth Vader project starring Hayden Christensen, and the excitement surrounding it is very real. While neither Disney nor Lucasfilm has made any official announcement, the reports have been amplified by major Star Wars YouTube channels and fan outlets, sending the fandom into a frenzy of speculation and excitement.
According to what is floating around, the project would reportedly explore the period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, diving deep into Darth Vader’s early years serving the Galactic Empire and his adjustment to life inside that iconic black suit. That is a massive and largely unexplored era of the Star Wars timeline, and one fans have been hungry to see brought to life. Some reports suggest it could be a theatrical film, while others point toward a Disney+ series format, and at this point no confirmed format has been announced.
Hayden Christensen himself has made no secret of the fact that he would be ready and willing to return. During an appearance at Fan Expo Chicago in December 2025, he said plainly, “I would love to, yeah. So if the powers that be decide that that’s something they want to see, I’d be there in a heartbeat.” Christensen is already locked in to reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker in Ahsoka Season 2, which arrives on Disney+ on January 20, 2027, and rumors suggest he may be in talks for at least two additional Star Wars projects beyond that.
With Star Wars Celebration 2027 set for April 1 through 4, and the franchise celebrating its 50th anniversary next year, the timing for a major Darth Vader announcement feels like it could not be more perfect. A dedicated Vader project has been one of the most requested things in the Star Wars fandom for years, and if these rumors turn out to be true, the wait may finally be coming to an end.
