Pokémon is heading to Disney+ and Disney XD in a big way, and there is a brand new stop-motion animated series coming with it. Disney has announced a global distribution deal with The Pokémon Company International that includes the beloved classic original series and an all-new show called Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu, set to debut in 2027.
The new series is being made by Aardman, the legendary animation studio behind Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep, so you already know the craftsmanship is going to be something special. The show follows Sirfetch’d and Pichu as they travel through the Galar Region on a mission to help and protect Pokémon. Their well-meaning adventures tend to go sideways in the best possible way, with plenty of peril, new friendships, rivalries, and some extraordinary Pokémon encounters along the way.
As part of the deal, the original Pokémon the Series: The Beginning is already airing on Disney XD and streaming on Disney+, giving longtime fans a chance to revisit the series that started it all and introducing it to a brand new generation. Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids and Family, summed it up well: “Pokémon has that rare ability to mean something to longtime fans while continuing to feel completely relevant to young audiences today.”
