Disneyland Resort Creates the happiest Day in Anaheim with Communitywide Celebration

Disneyland Resort may be known as The Happiest Place on Earth, but on August 27, the magic traveled far beyond the theme park gates. Through surprise giveaways, character appearances, school activities and a massive community celebration, Disneyland Resort worked to create what it called the “Happiest Day in Anaheim.”

The special event continued Disneyland Resort’s longstanding relationship with its hometown. After celebrating its 70th anniversary with last year’s “70 Happiest Hours in Anaheim,” the resort returned with another citywide initiative designed to bring Disney experiences directly to local children, families and senior citizens.

The celebration began before August 27, with Disney VoluntEARS traveling throughout Anaheim and making surprise appearances at community centers and local events.

Throughout the month, more than 2,000 residents received Disney-themed treats and gifts. Stops included Oak Canyon Nature Center, where children were attending summer camp, and the YMCA Sports Complex.

The August 27 festivities began at the Ponderosa Family Resource Center, where more than 125 senior citizens were treated to a Disney-themed celebration.

The morning started with a yoga session led by instructors from Tenaya Stone Spa at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Guests then participated in Disney Bingo, crafts with Disney VoluntEARS and dancing set to Disney music from across the decades.

Goofy also joined the party to greet attendees and pose for photographs. Disneyland Resort backdrops gave guests another opportunity to capture memories from the celebration.

The resort expanded the experience by providing four libraries and two additional senior communities with the supplies needed to host Disney celebrations of their own.

The festivities continued at Danbrook Elementary School, where more than 400 students participated in a Disney-themed field day.

Students representing seven grade levels explored four themed activity areas inspired by familiar Disneyland Resort locations and stories. The activities included a Toontown Dance-Stravaganza, Pixar Pier Relay Rally and New Orleans Square Swashbuckling Soiree.

At the conclusion of the field day, every student received a Disney swag bag containing surprises such as Mickey ears and a Mickey-shaped crispy treat.

Disneyland Resort also recognized the school’s 75 teachers and staff members. Each faculty member received complimentary Disneyland Resort admission for themselves and one guest.

Main Street, U.S.A., Comes to the Anaheim Community

The day’s largest event was “Main Street on Your Street,” a community celebration held at Center Greens Park.

More than 3,000 Anaheim residents attended the event, which brought familiar elements of Main Street, U.S.A., directly into the community. Disney VoluntEARS helped transform the park into an experience filled with entertainment, food, games, crafts and character appearances.

Mary Poppins and the Pearly Band performed for attendees, while the Disneyland Resort Fire Engine gave residents another recognizable piece of Disneyland history to enjoy.

Families could participate in carnival-style games, create their own paper Main Street, U.S.A., window and take photos in front of backdrops featuring Sleeping Beauty Castle and the Disneyland Resort marquee. Mickey balloons added another familiar touch to the festivities.

Disneyland favorites were also served throughout the celebration, including hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy and Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Bars.

Mickey Mouse and Friends Take the Stage

Disney characters helped bring the evening celebration to life. Miguel from Disney and Pixar’s Coco and Mirabel from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Encanto greeted residents during the event.

Later, Mickey Mouse and several of his friends appeared on the main stage, dancing to classic Disney music and interacting with the crowd. Their performance brought the communitywide celebration to a fitting conclusion.

Disneyland Resort’s Continuing Commitment to Anaheim

Disneyland Resort has called Anaheim home since opening in 1955. Over the decades, the resort has supported communities throughout Anaheim and Orange County through volunteer programs, special events and charitable contributions.

According to Disney, its cash and in-kind donations total tens of millions of dollars each year. Programs such as the Happiest Day in Anaheim illustrate how that support can also include memorable experiences created specifically for local residents.

From surprise gifts and senior activities to a school field day and a Main Street-inspired community festival, the Happiest Day in Anaheim extended Disney magic across the city. It also demonstrated that Disneyland Resort’s connection to Anaheim involves more than welcoming guests into its parks—it includes sharing happiness with the community it has called home for more than 70 years.
