Disney’s Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey will debut as a brand new giant character balloon in this year’s 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the reveal happened today, August 13, in a surprise moment for fans attending D23 Day at Disneyland Resort’s Downtown Disney District.
The new balloon draws its magic straight from Fantasia, giving us Mickey in his most iconic sorcerer form floating above the streets of New York City this Thanksgiving. It’s a fitting tribute for the parade’s centennial, especially considering Mickey has been part of this tradition since the very beginning. Back in 1934, Mickey Mouse became the first Disney character balloon to ever fly in the parade, so this new design feels like a full circle moment nearly a century later.
Macy’s isn’t stopping at the balloon reveal either. Starting today, an exclusive Disney capsule collection is launching with fashion, accessories, and collectible keepsakes inspired by both the Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey balloon and 100 years of parade magic. The lineup includes pieces from Citizen, Crocs, Hallmark, Loungefly, Super Smalls, Swarovski, and more, giving fans an early taste of the celebration before the full assortment rolls out later this fall. That broader collection is set to include more than 100 items celebrating Disney, Pixar, and Marvel characters that have marched through parade history over the decades.
