Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a place where people can become toys or join the resistance. They can rock along with Aerosmith or sing their hearts out with Elsa and Anna. The park offers diversity in both attraction styles and themes but has seen a lot of changes over the years.
One attraction that has remained intact since its opening in 1991 is Muppet*Vision 3D. That’s right, this fan favorite turns thirty this month, which makes it one of the oldest attractions in the park! To celebrate the milestone, let’s talk about what makes Muppet*Vision 3D, and the surrounding area, popular with guests and what could make it better.
What are the benefits?
Grand Avenue is located outside of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Guests can visit here while they wait for their Rise of the Resistance return time or if they have little ones not able to experience other rides. The attraction itself is an indoor theater show that provides cool relief on hot days. The wait time is generally low considering the entire experience is about twenty minutes. All around, guests see colorful displays of paint splatters and characters, giving the area a whimsical feel. There are two shops, one Christmas themed and one art themed (that are currently closed), and two restaurants, Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano and PizzeRizzo. Overall, Grand Avenue offers a good mix of nostalgia, creativity, and practicality.
What are the shortcomings?
Anyone who has experienced Muppet*Vision 3D could tell you that the video is out of date. Besides the fact of needing glasses to view it, the quality is not up to par with the technology Disney has available. Outside, the entirety of Grand Avenue is quite small; it’s very crammed in the back. There is not much room to sit and relax other than when eating. The area could attract more guests if it was made more inclusive and interactive. Adding activities or surprises that all ages could participate in would give guests a more enjoyable experience.
With all the new advancements Disney is making, it’s reassuring to know that some things haven’t changed. Most of the opening day attractions no longer exist so we should treasure the ones that do. Muppet*Vision 3D is full of witty humor, eccentric characters, and memories that last a lifetime. Happy birthday and here’s to many more!
