I have officially declared 2021 the year of reading. Starting back in January, I committed to reading at least twenty pages every single day for fun. Not for work, not for professional development. These twenty pages are for my pure enjoyment. It has become my favorite form of self care and I look forward to it every day!
I knew I wanted to put a Disney spin on my book choices, so I started looking at what was out there. I searched online and found that I had some really fun options! As an avid fan of The Little Mermaid, I chose Part of Your World from the Twisted Tales series as my first read. It was written by Liz Braswell, who was the mastermind behind the series. She is an English-born American writer who is known for writing young adult fiction. Her original idea has grown and she now has other authors writing them too.
A twisted tale is a spin on a familiar story. In this case, it was a Disney story. It presents the story from a different angle. Each book in the series has it’s twist right on the cover. This one was “What if Ariel had never defeated Ursala?” (No spoilers here, you’ll have to read it to find out.)
In Part of Your World, the story is retold as if Ursula the Sea Witch prevailed over Ariel in the original story. All of your favorite characters are still there, but some time has passed. Flounder, Sebastian, King Triton, Prince Eric, and even the silly seagull Skuttle all make appearances. A few new friends add even more fun and dimension to this version of the story.
As an avid Little Mermaid fan, I could not put this book down. I read it in just a few days because the 475 pages flew by! It is available at many local retailers as well as online.
If you read this book and enjoy it, be sure to pick up more books from the series. Braswell and her team have published “twists” on many of your favorite Disney stories. There is sure to be something for everyone!
