Akon Announces Plan for $6 Billion Black Panther-inspired Wakanda in Senegal

We know what you’re thinking–who doesn’t love the futuristic world of Wakanda? Well, thanks to Akon, this utopia may actually be coming to Africa in real life! However, it probably won’t be hidden with an advanced projection like in the films!

Everyone knows Akon for his smash record hits. Although, now it seems the musician is adding city developer to his resume as the pop star has officially announced he’s a third of his way toward a $6-billion goal needed to complete the Wakanda-inspired city in Senegal to be named AKONCITY.

Akon says his inspiration for bringing the fictional land from “Black Panther” comes from his desire to support tourism and the economy in Senegal.

“The system back home treats them unfairly in so many different ways that you can never imagine. And they only go through it because they feel that there is no other way,” Akon said. “So if you’re coming from America or Europe or elsewhere in the diaspora and you feel that you want to visit Africa, we want Senegal to be your first stop,” said Akon in a recent statement discussing the new land.

Reportedly, Akon hopes this project would provide much-needed jobs for Senegalese and also serve as a “home back home” for Black Americans and others facing racial injustices.

For those wondering how this city will resemble that of a real-life Wakanda–it’s all about its building’s designs, which will be made mostly of concrete, glass, copper, and steel. These materials, along with its building’s shapes, will bring a futuristic appeal to the African city–similar to the fictitious city in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

As exciting as this news is, it’s been cast with a bit of a shadow of sadness given the recent passing of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman who recently lost his battle to cancer a few only a few weeks ago.

What are your thoughts on Akon creating a city in Senegal that will be loosely based on Wakanda from the “Black Panther” films? Let us know in the comments!
