Can you believe it’s been 20 years? The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause arrived in theaters on November 3, 2006, sending Tim Allen back to the North Pole for one more adventure as Scott Calvin, aka Santa Claus. To celebrate the movie’s 20th anniversary, here are some fun facts about the third Santa Clause movie.
What The Santa Clause 3 Is About
Santa has a lot on his plate in this one. With Mrs. Claus expecting their first baby and her parents visiting the North Pole, Scott is already juggling a busy holiday season when the scheming Jack Frost sets his sights on taking over Christmas. Jack tricks Santa into using the “escape clause” to give up the job, and Scott has to find a way to set things right before Christmas is lost for good.
Fun Facts About The Santa Clause 3
1. Martin Short Joined the Family as Jack Frost
The biggest addition to the cast was Martin Short, who stole scenes as the mischievous and jealous Jack Frost. He brought a big dose of comedy to the role of the series’ first true villain.
2. Movie Legends Played Mrs. Claus’s Parents
Oscar winner Alan Arkin and Ann-Margret played Mrs. Claus’s parents, who have no idea their son-in-law is actually Santa. Keeping that secret leads to some of the movie’s funniest moments.
3. Familiar Faces Returned
Elizabeth Mitchell returned as Carol, aka Mrs. Claus, along with Eric Lloyd as Charlie, Judge Reinhold and Wendy Crewson as Neil and Laura, Liliana Mumy as Lucy and Spencer Breslin as Curtis, the head elf.
4. It Went Head to Head With Borat
The first two Santa Clause movies both opened at number one, but this time Santa had some unexpected competition. The Santa Clause 3 opened at number two with about $19.5 million, just behind Borat. It went on to earn about $84.5 million in North America and around $110 million worldwide.
5. The Same Director Returned
Michael Lembeck, who directed The Santa Clause 2, came back to direct the third movie too, keeping the series’ festive tone in the family.
6. Santa’s Story Continued on Disney+
The Santa Clause 3 was the final movie in the trilogy, but it wasn’t the end for Scott Calvin. Tim Allen returned to the role in the Disney+ series The Santa Clauses in 2022, with Elizabeth Mitchell, Eric Lloyd and other familiar faces joining him.
