Disney Reportedly Planning Thousands of Layoffs as Managers Are Asked to Cut Costs 20%

November 3, 2026

Another round of layoffs appears to be on the way at The Walt Disney Company, and this one could be the biggest yet. According to a report from Bloomberg, Disney is moving toward thousands of job cuts and has asked some managers to target 20% in annual cost savings.

What We Know So Far

Bloomberg’s report, which cites people familiar with the matter, says the savings could come from both job eliminations and other expense reductions. Deadline separately reported the same 20% target, adding that the cuts will reach several divisions, including the TV networks and the film studio, at varying levels. Some parts of the company are expected to be affected more than others.

A few key details are still unknown. The reports haven’t said exactly how many jobs will be cut, when the layoffs will happen or whether frontline Cast Members at the parks would be affected. Disney has not publicly commented on the reports.

Where the Savings Are Going

According to Bloomberg, CEO Josh D’Amaro plans to reinvest part of the savings into film and TV programming, technology, and the theme parks and cruise ship businesses. That’s an important detail for Disney fans, since the parks and Disney Cruise Line are areas where the company has been investing heavily in new lands, attractions and ships.

The Latest in a Year of Cuts

If it goes forward, this would be the fourth round of layoffs in 2026 under D’Amaro, who took over as CEO from Bob Iger in March, and the largest so far, according to Variety. Here’s how this year has unfolded:

  • April: About 1,000 jobs were cut across the company
  • August: Disney offered early retirement packages to longtime executives
  • September: A few hundred jobs were cut in human resources and technology
  • October: A state filing confirmed 159 layoffs at Walt Disney Imagineering as part of cuts in the Disney Experiences division

Disney had about 231,000 employees at the end of its 2025 fiscal year. Back in September, the company warned it would become a much smaller organization, and Disney’s Dana Walden has called the layoffs extremely painful. You can read more about Dana Walden’s comments on the layoffs here.

What Comes Next

Disney is expected to report its fiscal 2026 results later this month, and executives could be asked about the cuts then. We’ll update this story as more details are confirmed. Our thoughts are with the Disney employees and their families who may be affected.
