Bob Iger is telling his side of the story. Random House announced today that the former Disney CEO’s second memoir, One Last Time: Managing Crisis and Building Resilience at Disney, will be released on March 2, 2027.
The new book picks up where his bestselling 2019 memoir, The Ride of a Lifetime, left off and takes readers inside his surprise return to The Walt Disney Company in November 2022.

“This Is a Comeback Story”
According to Random House, One Last Time is “the candid inside story of the sometimes bumpy, never boring journey to reconnect a great company to its core values.” Iger describes it simply: “This is a comeback story. It’s about what Disney needed to find its way back to its core values and what that journey taught me.”
Like The Ride of a Lifetime, the new book blends memoir with leadership lessons. This time, the focus is on leading through adversity. The publisher’s description notes that Iger “would have to develop a new playbook, for a new era, and he would make his share of mistakes along the way.”
What the Book Covers
Iger’s second run as CEO was anything but quiet. The book is expected to cover the major challenges he faced after returning, including:
- Two hostile proxy battles over control of the company
- The 2023 Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes
- The rise of artificial intelligence and what it means for entertainment
- ABC’s temporary suspension of Jimmy Kimmel
- Rebuilding Disney’s succession plan
The book also looks at making tough decisions with imperfect information and owning up to mistakes. It is not yet clear how much it will cover Disney’s theme parks, though Iger’s second tenure included the plan to invest about $60 billion in Disney Experiences, including the parks and cruise line.
Iger’s Two Runs as Disney CEO
Iger first led Disney from 2005 to 2020, a run that included the acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and 21st Century Fox, plus the launch of Disney+. He stepped down in early 2020 and handed the role to Bob Chapek, then shocked the industry when he returned as CEO in November 2022.
His second run lasted nearly four years. On March 18, 2026, Iger passed the CEO title to Josh D’Amaro. He remains a senior advisor and member of the board until he officially retires on December 31, 2026.
One of Three Books About the Same Era
One Last Time is one of three books covering this chapter of Disney history. Bob Chapek released his own memoir, Behind the Castle Walls, in September (here’s what to expect from Bob Chapek’s book). Wall Street Journal reporter Robbie Whelan’s The House of Mouse: Bob Iger and the War of Succession at Disney arrives December 1, 2026. Iger’s book will be the only one told from his point of view.
Iger has not shied away from discussing that era before. Back in 2023, he said he was disappointed in what he was seeing during Chapek’s time as CEO, so fans can expect him to talk candidly about why he came back.
