The Muppets have handled pirates, haunted mansions, Christmas ghosts, and the general chaos of keeping a variety show on the air, but Marvel Comics is about to send them on their most dangerous mission yet.
The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe #1 brings Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie Bear, and the rest of the troupe into the Marvel Universe for a massive crossover celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Muppet Show. And yes, they manage to cause a spectacular amount of chaos almost immediately.
Rowlf Has Been Kidnapped (By a TV Villain, Naturally)
A preview of the upcoming one-shot reveals that Rowlf the Dog has been kidnapped by Mojo, the deeply unsettling X-Men villain who rules the television-obsessed Mojoverse. An alternate version of Dr. Bunsen Honeydew arrives through an interdimensional portal to warn Kermit and the gang that their “passable piano player” has been taken, and that they are going to need help from the super-powered heroes of a more popular universe if they want to bring him home.
That rescue mission serves as the connective tissue between five stories packed with some genuinely inspired pairings. Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, and Gonzo set out to find heroes willing to confront Mojo. Along the way, Wolverine climbs aboard the Electric Mayhem‘s van, Miss Piggy crosses paths with Rocket and Groot during an alien invasion, and Bunsen and Beaker conduct an experiment alongside Bruce Banner and Hank Pym. Meanwhile, Doctor Strange offers to summon a mysterious chef who just might be able to recreate Clea’s mother’s soup, which can only mean one thing: the Swedish Chef is coming.
An Avengers Roster Opening and One Very Unqualified Candidate
Things get even more chaotic on the Avengers side of the story. With Captain Marvel, Hulk, and Vision called away to respond to an emergency on Chandilar, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, and Thor find themselves short staffed just as Doctor Doom prepares to attack Avengers headquarters with an entire Doombot armada. That leaves the team considering a lobby full of potential recruits, which could put one extremely unqualified Muppet within shouting distance of Avengers membership.

The one-shot features stories from writers Chip Zdarsky, Kyle Starks, MacKenzie Cadenhead, Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Ashley Allen, and Adam F. Goldberg, with art from Pete Woods, Mike Henderson, David Baldeón, Áthila Fabbio, Paco Medina, and E.J. Su.
