Yesterday, I got a preview of something new at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Animation Courtyard reopened at the beginning of the summer, which has been very well received by guests. There’s always something happening! If you recall, the large building back there was the Star Wars Launch Bay for some time. When that entire area was redone, that spot has now become ‘The Magic of Disney Animation.’
Inside The Magic Disney of Animation, there’s a new special activity for the entire family that you’re sure to love. Olaf Draws! Similar to the old Animation Academy, guests can learn to draw a specific character. You’ll learn from various Disney artists, like Eric Goldberg who was the supervising animator for ‘Aladdin.’ In his session, you’ll learn to draw the Genie!
Olaf Draws is a fun time. Olaf not only talks to the audience and featured artist, but makes random jokes throughout the show. In this particular drawing lesson, Eric Goldberg gave us some tidbits about the creation of the Genie, the animation building and fun facts about Robin Williams.
I sat through three sessions, and all were fantastic. They were, learn to draw Mickey Mouse with Dan Abraham, and drawing Stitch with Fawn Veerasunthorn. I found Stitch to be the easiest, but all were great to try! The steps are explained well and you’ll be given time to check your progress and catch up if needed!
All in all, Olaf Draws is a great time. It’s something that can be done again and again, you never know what character you’ll get. In addition to learning to draw, the show itself is funny. I thoroughly enjoyed Olaf Draws, and I believe you will too. The Magic of Disney Animation opens on September 14th!
