Disney fans are about to get a whole new reason to love TikTok. The Walt Disney Company and TikTok just announced a first of its kind global partnership that will bring fan created short form videos straight into the Disney+ app. It is a huge move that puts fan creativity front and center like never before.
The deal will pilot in the US in the coming months with other markets expected to follow. Short form videos from participating creators who opt in will live on both TikTok and in Verts on Disney+, spotlighting characters and stories from across the Disney universe including Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, FX and more. TikTok creators will get access to assets from hundreds of films and series across Disney’s massive library, meaning fans can expect fresh, regularly updated content that keeps fandom conversations going strong.
Asad Ayaz, Chief Marketing and Brand Officer for The Walt Disney Company, said the collaboration builds a new bridge between Disney’s stories and the creativity they inspire, giving creators a bigger platform and giving audiences even more to discover on Disney+. TikTok’s Dawn Yang, Global Head of Entertainment, echoed that sentiment, noting the partnership brings TikTok’s authentic creator community directly into the Disney+ experience. As part of the collaboration, the two companies are also launching the Disney Creator Ambassador Program, a tiered system designed to reward top creators with exclusive events, career development opportunities and increased visibility.
The timing makes sense too. TikTok says fans share an average of 6.5 million film and TV related posts every single day, and nearly half of viewers surveyed said discovering entertainment content on TikTok led them to actually watch that movie or show on a streaming service afterward. With this partnership, Disney and TikTok are betting
that fan creativity is one of the biggest storytelling forces out there.
