“Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives” review by Brandon Popper

IMG_5097 So when you think about going to a museum what do you think about? Artifacts? Paintings? Old stuff? Mickey Mouse? Yes Mickey Mouse. The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago has one of the biggest collections of Disney memorabilia in the world. It’s called Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives, presented by D23: The Official Disney Fan Club.
On Monday August 4th, my wife, 2.5 year old son and my self had the pleasure of going to see this collection. The Collection has been at the Science and Industry museum since October of 2013 and will run through January 2015. This exhibit was suppose to end back at the beginning of August 2014 but due to the demand and it becoming one of the bigger exhibits they’ve done and extend it another 4 months.
This exhibit has everything the possible Disney fanatic would want to see. From early images of Walt and his family, to the story of Walt and Roy going west to start their work in animation, to the original Oswald the Lucky Rabbit drawing that started it all. Also being able to see how the early animated films were made from the idea to the glass plating to the stencils through the whole process.

c You are able to see actual props and costumes from your favorite movies such as the hand bag from Marry Poppins, to the actual costumes Johnny Depp wore in both Pirates and Alice in Wonderland.

b The exhibit also has the original mail box that was at Disneyland where you could send your postcards and letters to family and friends from, as well as the first ticket ever bought to Disney Land by Roy O. Disney
This is something everyone should try to see if they make it up to but one must remember, this is an extra cost to the museum admission.
