Get your show choir shoes ready. Disney+ and Hulu have officially ordered a Glee reboot, bringing the hit musical comedy back to TV more than a decade after it ended its run on Fox. The new series comes from 20th Television, with original co-creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan behind the script.

How the Glee Reboot Came Together
The road to the reboot moved fast. Back in July, at the premiere of his FX drama The Shards, Murphy first hinted at a return, telling People, “Maybe we should revisit that show.”
By late September, the script was done. Murphy told Entertainment Tonight, “We have a script. Brad, Ian and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something.” He even revealed on the red carpet at the American Horror Story Season 13 premiere that he had “just finished the script an hour ago.” Just weeks later, Disney+ and Hulu gave the series the green light.
Will the Original Cast Return?
This is the question every Gleek wants answered. No casting has been announced yet, but Murphy says he has been in touch with around 10 members of the original cast.

“It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea,” Murphy said.
He did not say who he spoke with, so we will have to wait to find out whether familiar faces like Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch, Darren Criss, Kevin McHale, Amber Riley or Jenna Ushkowitz will return to McKinley High. It is also not yet known whether the reboot will follow the original characters, introduce a brand new glee club, or mix both.
Fans will also be watching to see how the series honors Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera, two beloved stars who have since passed away.
A Look Back at Glee
Glee premiered on Fox in 2009 and ran for six seasons, following the misfits of New Directions, the glee club at William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio. The show became a pop culture phenomenon, turning cover songs into chart hits and earning 32 Emmy nominations with six wins, plus four Golden Globe wins.
Since Glee was produced by 20th Century Fox Television, the series became part of the Disney family after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox in 2019, making Disney+ and Hulu a natural home for its return.
We will keep you updated as casting news and a premiere date are announced.
