EPCOT’s iconic geosphere is heading to Disney+, and now we know who will lead the adventure. Catherine Laga’aia, star of Disney’s live action Moana, and Deacon Phillippe have been cast in the pilot for Spaceship Earth, a new Disney+ series inspired by the classic EPCOT attraction.
What Is the Spaceship Earth Series About?
The series takes its name from EPCOT’s famous attraction but tells its own original story. Here’s the official logline: “When a mission to avert an imminent global cataclysm goes awry, a small band of teenagers from Earth’s past and future must join forces” against a threat described as “as vast and mysterious as time itself.”
It’s a fitting idea for a show inspired by Spaceship Earth. The attraction has taken guests on a journey through the history of human communication since EPCOT opened in 1982, from cave paintings to the printing press to the computer age. A story about teenagers from across time working together feels like a natural way to bring that theme to life.
Character names and roles for Laga’aia and Phillippe haven’t been revealed yet.
Meet the Cast
Catherine Laga’aia made her big screen debut as Moana in Disney’s live action remake of the animated hit, starring opposite Dwayne Johnson as Maui. She also starred in the limited series The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart alongside Sigourney Weaver, and she’s set to appear in the 2027 feature Crashout.
Deacon Phillippe is the son of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe. His credits include Netflix’s Never Have I Ever, Prime Video’s Motörheads, and Brother Save Us, his first leading role. He’s currently filming Netflix’s romantic comedy Better Than the Movies and will soon appear in 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank with Liam Neeson.
The Team Behind the Series
Spaceship Earth has an impressive creative team. The pilot was written by Jason Fuchs, creator of IT: Welcome to Derry, and Michael Waldron, the head writer behind Marvel’s Loki. Fuchs will serve as showrunner, and both will executive produce.
Lee Toland Krieger is attached to direct the pilot and executive produce. Adam Fishbach and Adam Fasullo also serve as executive producers, and the series comes from 20th Television.
Disney first revealed the project in August 2026.
Another Disney Attraction Heads to the Screen
Disney has a long history of turning its theme park attractions into movies and shows, from Pirates of the Caribbean to Jungle Cruise and Haunted Mansion. Spaceship Earth is one of the most beloved and recognizable attractions at Walt Disney World, so fans will be watching closely to see how the series honors it.
When Will Spaceship Earth Come to Disney+?
There’s no release date yet. This is still a pilot, which means Disney will need to officially pick it up as a full series before it heads to Disney+. Still, landing a rising star like Catherine Laga’aia and a writer like Michael Waldron is a good sign that Disney is serious about it.
We’ll keep you updated as more casting and story details are announced.
