The late Chadwick Boseman, most known for his epic performance as Marvel’s Black Panther, has been nominated for an Emmy for his role as Star-Lord in Marvel’s animated Disney+ TV series “What If…?
On Tuesday, it was revealed Boseman was nominated in the category of “Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance.” In the category, Boseman is joined by other nominees of Stanley Tucci, Maya Rudolph, Jessica Walter, and Julie Andrews.
Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016 and battled in silence with the disease for the last four years of his life as it progressed to stage IV. In 2020, Boseman succumbed to the disease at the age of 43.
Some of Boseman’s other notable roles in Hollywood besides Marvel’s “Black Panther” include iconic figures such as James Brown, Jackie Robinson, and Thurgood Marshall.
At the time of Chadwick’s death, it was not widely known the actor had been suffering from cancer.
Recently, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige spoke about Bosema’s final performance with Variety on the red carpet of “Shang-Chi.”
“We didn’t know it would be his final performance obviously,” Feige explained. “He came in numerous times, was so gung ho about it, was so excited about it…He read the episode that airs 24 hours from now and then came back and said ‘I really love this version of T’Challa.’ And we had a conversation after that with Ryan about ‘How do we get some of this voice,’ none of the storyline, but just some of that voice into Panther 2. Now of course it’s remarkably sad and bittersweet, but I’m very happy we have it and I’m very happy he did it for us. I’m excited for the fans to see that as well.”
