The long awaited and highly anticipated “resort” the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser has come and gone. There were high hopes for this experience for the ultimate Star Wars fans, but it only lasted about a year and a half. The cost for this hotel experience was around 1 billion dollars, so it was shocking that it closed so quickly. The Starcruiser has been closed for some time, with many speculating on what would become of it for the future. Well, now we know, the building will be used for offices for Imagineering.

WDI will be using the building as a hub for several expansion projects coming to the expansive Walt Disney World resort including (among other things) the Latin America area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom that will be home to “Encanto” and Indiana Jones-themed attractions; the upcoming “Cars”- and Disney Villains-themed lands opening at the Magic Kingdom; and the “Monsters, Inc.” land, complete with door chase coaster, arriving at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. (That “Monsters, Inc.” coaster is perhaps the most controversial, because it calls for the removal of Jim Henson’s beloved final project – Muppet*Vision 3D.)

I’m sure some may be a little disappointed that the Starcruiser isn’t turning into another type of attraction for guests. The bright side is that Walt Disney World has many new projects and attractions on the horizon for guests to look forward to! Stay tuned to The Main Street Mouse for more Disney updates as we see them.
