After a recent incident at Lake Eola where some drones collided mid-air, Universal Orlando has decided to pause the drone section of their nighttime show. In a statement sent to the media, Universal announced:
“We have currently paused the drone component of CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular,”
The nighttime show, CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular is a 22 minute that takes place above the lagoon at Universal Studios Florida. The show features:
- Music, lights, water, and fireworks
- 600 drones – (currently paused)
- 228 fountains up to 131 feet tall
- 4K projection mapping
- An original score
- Characters from popular Universal movies, including Ghostbusters, Jaws, Shrek, The Minions, and Bowser
- Scenes from blockbuster films, including Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts, Jurassic World, Trolls, Back to the Future, and more
The incident that took place in December at Lake Eola caused injury to a 7 year old who was taken to the hospital. The child ended up having open heart surgery due to a chest injury and is now recovering according to his parents. The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that it’s investigating the Lake Eola incident. What caused the drones to collide and fall has been unclear.
Currently, CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular is still listed on Universal Orlando’s schedule and takes place at park close most nights, check the times guide/app for latest information.
