It’s time to deck the halls and walls of the Red Coconut Club at Universal CityWalk in colors and decor that are not only holly, but also jolly! What’s the best way to get you into the holiday spirit? A nightclub or a ski lodge? The answer is both. Mistletoe Pines Ski Lodge is back in business for another year of holiday hoorah, and it’s taking over the newly transformed Green & Red Coconut Club.
To properly welcome the holiday season, we’re channeling only the most authentic après-ski (French for “after ski”) lodge vibes into this vibrant nightclub. From floor to ceiling, the lodge is adorned with themed decor that transports you to a cozy-yet-swanky mountaintop hangout spot. Get your fill of Green & Red Coconut Club’s all-new holiday menu and see what lodge life is all about. One too many rounds of hot cocoa by the fire will have you wondering, “Are we still at Universal CityWalk?” Yes, and you’ll never want to leave, and I’m going to show you why!
The Entrance: Gateway to a Good Time
Your journey begins at the base of the mountain, clad in your ski-trip best as you prepare to embark on a snow-filled adventure down the slopes. Before boarding the ski lift, grab hold of your skis and stand tall in front of the snowy trees for a photo op that is sure to have everyone back home wishing they were you.
“What an exhilarating ride,” you think to yourself. All that’s on your mind now is where to wind down — and that’s when you stumble upon Mistletoe Pines Ski Lodge. Fresh off the slopes with ski tracks deep in the snow, you wander inside, ready for a drink with a side of good music and a good time.
Merrymaking in the German Corner
There’s no Christmas quite like a German Christmas and that’s why Green & Red Coconut Club annually dubs its seating nook the German Corner when the holidays roll around. At its center hangs the mighty Christmas pickle tree, a quirky nod to the German-American holiday tradition of hiding a pickle ornament deep within the branches of a Christmas tree; the child who finds it first gets an extra gift from St. Nick.
Resting on floating shelves all along the walls are a variety of traditional German and ski-themed figurines. From never-ending nutcrackers and crochet elves and reindeer to snowy wooden villages and an assortment of snow globes, the German Corner does not fall short during the holidays. Make sure you’re on your best behavior while sitting over here; Krampus has got his beady button eyes on you!
Have a Drink at the White Elephant Bar
Can we address the elephant in the room? The white elephant, that is. Taking part in a traditional White Elephant gift exchange always results in someone leaving with the obligatory unwanted gift. Well, Green & Red Coconut Club wants it — it wants all the unwanted gifts, in fact! That’s why to keep this long-standing holiday tradition alive, the nightclub has decked out its entrance bar with all the outlandish items that no one wants or will ever use. (Dibs on the crochet emotional support pickle!)
There’s even a dazzling arched photo op covered in glittery Christmas ornaments, mistletoe leaves and gear integral to having a thrilling time on the slopes, all neatly wrapped in a big red bow. Sit, sip and stay a while — and maybe even enjoy a nostalgic game of bubble hockey while you’re at it.
Cozy Up on the Dance Floor
The dance floor at this nightclub gives new meaning to the lyrics “walking in a winter wonderland,” and I’m not just being dramatic. You’re greeted by an entryway joyfully clad in Christmas tree garland and bright, multi-colored string lights. Beneath the welcoming “Mistletoe Pines Ski Lodge” sign sits two snowy Christmas trees that lead to a whole festive-forest-turned dance floor of trees under the twinkling stars and bright northern lights.
The benches on either side of the dance floor entryway are thoughtfully decorated in ski lodge decor that’ll make you want to do nothing but relax and relish all the holiday season has to offer. If you’re going to stand under the archway to the left of these benches, make sure it’s next to someone you like and are NOT related to! This ski lodge’s namesake is hanging from the center of the archway, and it makes for a perfect — and romantic — holiday photo op.
Just past the outdoor forest of Mistletoe Pines sits a snowy Christmas Village of gingerbread homes and trees nestled against the wall. They’re joined by shimmery hanging snowflakes, Christmas ornaments and warm string lights with garland hanging down from above. You’ll also see the Red Coconut Express chugging along the wall all season long.
Peruse the Snazzy Snow Globe Bar
When the holidays roll around, everyone becomes a little snow globe obsessed — myself included. Green & Red Coconut Club takes that obsession to a new level as its Stage Bar has been transformed into the Snow Globe Bar. A harsh blizzard has littered the stage with a thick blanket of snow, and the barkeepers have adorned it with all their favorite holiday snow globes. Look to the skies to find a bright, giant star accompanied by the biggest snow globe of them all with an animated ski lift and mountaintop backdrop sitting inside. If you’re watching at the right time, you may even catch Santa Claus on his sleigh led by his trusty reindeer.
Relax in the Ugly Sweater Lodge
With a tasty drink from the Snow Globe Bar in hand, mosey over to the array of flocked trees adorned with only the ugliest — but somehow still the coolest — Christmas sweaters money can buy at Green & Red Coconut Club’s one and only Ugly Sweater Lodge. What’ll it be? Getting cozy on the sectional while snuggling up with plush holiday throw pillows, or unwinding by the warm fireplace brimming with holiday decor galore? Both will bring you and your friends all the best classic board games, including a festive game of Christmas Categories. Shhh! Keep it down; you might scare away the cute critters crossing the bridge.
Onward to Earl’s Tree Farm & Nuthouse
Earl the Squirrel has turned the upper level of the Green & Red Coconut Club into his personal lodge. Mind the haphazardly placed wood paneling along the walls of the stairway, and don’t miss telltale signs detailing Earl’s Golden Coconuts Scavenger Hunt. Our favorite little holiday hero has hidden 12 golden coconuts throughout his lodge, and it’s up to you to find them all.
You’ll start at the top of the stairs where you can toast to a merry Christmas in front of Earl’s ever-so inviting acorn-filled fireplace. Find the mantle laden with giant acorns, snow-covered pine trees, neatly stacked Christmas presents and a framed portrait of Earl’s good coconut friends, Scarlet and Olive, sitting above the fireplace indulging in all the juiciest holiday gossip. The wood-paneled walls are filled with family photos depicting all of Earl’s dearest memories with his fellow squirrels, pine cone Christmas wreaths and a string of bells that undoubtedly jingle.
Have you been naughty or nice? While strolling past Earl’s hefty acorn stash, see if your name made the cut on Santa’s list. After learning your Christmas fate, head over to Earl’s Tree Farm just across the way. From snow-covered grounds emerge a family of Christmas pines dressed in their holiday best. Frosted pine needles intertwined with both Christmas plaid and pine cone garland fill the farm with festive charm while colorful string lights drape the ceiling, making the space both merry and bright. Be sure to flick up with Gerg the llama next to his sparkling white, upside-down Christmas tree on your way out!
BONUS: Outdoor Axe Throwing
The holidays can be stressful. Luckily for you, Green & Red Coconut Club has more than one way of helping you relax and unwind. Step onto the balcony just outside of the Coca-Cola Bar and find a friendly game of axe throwing ready to be played. I call it “friendly” because the hook-and-loop fasteners on the axes and target aren’t capable of causing bodily harm like their sharper, waiver-requiring counterparts. Bring your best throwing arm and put your aim to the test over an exciting game of axe throwing with your friends and family this holiday season.
