We woke up to the news today that music legend, Quincy Jones, has passed away at the age of 91.
His publicist, Arnold Robinson, says he died Sunday night at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles, surrounded by his family.
Jones expanded the American songbook as a musician, composer and producer and shaped some of the biggest stars and most memorable songs in the second half of the 20th century
For Disney fans, Quincy Jones co-produced the song “Another Part of Me” by Michael Jackson for the 1986 Disney film Captain EO. The show was a part of Epcot for years. Jones also he appeared in the 1999 animated film Fantasia 2000. In the film, he introduced the set piece for George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.
Jones is also known for:
Producing Michael Jackson’s albums Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad
Organizing the 1985 charity recording “We Are the World”
Producing the 1985 film The Color Purple
Producing the television series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990–96)
Hosting Saturday Night Live in 1990
Quincy Jones has won 28 GRAMMY Awards, the second-highest GRAMMY winner of all time. His wins include three Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical awards and two awards each for Album Of The Year and Song Of The Year. He has been nominated a record 79 times since 1961.
“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” the family said in a statement. “And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”
