On Saturday, Marvel Studios returned to Hall H at San Diego Comic Con. Kevin Feige had some major announcements including Robert Downey Jr returning to the MCU who will play the Fantastic Four villain, Doctor Doom!! Let’s talk about all the announcements:

Captain America: Brave New World coming to theaters February 14, 2025
The crowd got to see some never before seen footage from the new Captain America film. The footage showed Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross who is also known as Red Hulk and will debut in the film, talking to Sam Wilson (Captain America) and wanting his help to rebuild the Avengers. They also talked about the Adamantium being introduced into the MCU. Adamantium is an artificial metal alloy that is indestructible and capable of cutting through almost any substance. Inspired by the legends of Hercules’ adamantine mace, Doctor Myron MacLain tried to create an unbreakable metal during World War. Another thing that was unveiled is the character that Giancarlo Esposito will be playing in the film. He will play King of the Serpent Society, Seth Voelker, also known as Sidewinder.

Cast of Captain America: Brave New World on hand for the announcements were Giancarlo Esposito, Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, and Tim Blake Nelson.
Thunderbolts coming to theaters May 5, 2025.
One of the highly anticipated films coming to the Marvel Universe is Thunderbolts. The Thunderbolts are a team of antiheroes mostly comprised of characters who were originally villains. The team consists of Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier, Ghost, Yelena Belova, John Walker aka U.S. Agent, Red Guardian, and Taskmaster. The team was formed by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine who is the CIA Director. The footage shows Yelena battling Ghost and John Walker while she is still dealing with her own demons.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps coming to theaters July 25, 2025
Just announced in Hall H:

The Fantastic Four is the first family of Marvel and fans have been waiting anxiously for them to be brought into the Marvel Universe. The film will be set in a retro-future version of the 60’s and fans got to see the Fantasticar take flight in Hall H . The crowd was treated to some very early footage of the film that reveals Mr. Fantastic leading an old-school style science program and The Thing taking part in a dating show. Production is set to start this Tuesday.

Victor Von Doom aka Doctor Doom will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Doctor Doom has been one of the most anticipated characters coming to the Marvel Universe, but the questions have always been when will he appear and who will play the character. During the Hall H presentation of Marvel Studios, Doctor Doom took the stage and removed his iconic mask to unveil none other than Robert Downey Jr. will be playing the infamous villain. Unsure of exactly how the man that started the Marvel Universe as Tony Stark will become the villain is unknown, but I can’t wait to see. Robert Downey Jr. shared a few words about the announcement: “New mask, same task. What can I tell ya? I like playing complicated characters.”

So when will Doctor Doom make his screen debut isn’t known for sure, but he will be in Avengers 5. If you remember, Avengers 5 was originally titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty with a focus on Kang. However, after Kang actor Jonathan Majors was found guilty of one count of assault and one count of harassment last December, Disney cut ties and made moves to minimize his character. Avengers 5 was retitled to Avengers: Doomsday and is due out in May 2026. In addition, Avengers 6 was announced and it will be titled Avengers: Secret Wars and will hit theaters in May 2027.
The Russo Brothers Return
Lots of rumors and names have been thrown around as to who will direct these 2 new Avengers films, well the rumors can stop as it was announced that Joe and Anthony Russo will be returning to the Marvel Universe to direct both films. The brothers have already directed some of the best Marvel films including Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
My opinion:
I’m so excited for all the announcements for the Marvel Universe. Honestly this gives me hope that the films and such can get back to what made the Cinematic Universe so exciting. The Russo brothers have directed my favorite 4 films to this point and I’m so hopeful for the next 2 Avengers films. Having Robert Downey Jr. back is fantastic. The man who brought us the MCU and Tony Stark I think will be able to take on Doctor Doom and make that character his as well. Thunderbolts is a film I was excited to see come together as we have seen so many pieces of this team in other movies and shows. Finally, Captain America: Brave New World has me curious to see how they deliver everything in Anthony Mackie’s film debut as Cap. Everyone who knows me, knows that Captain America is my favorite. In addition, Harrison Ford joining the MCU as General Ross and finally bringing Red Hulk to the screen is going to set up so much great things for the future. I’m so hopeful, for the first time in awhile.
